Michigan Retailer of the Year Nomination Form

Retailers all across Michigan are deeply involved in their communities. In addition to being a driving force in the state’s economy, retailers initiate and generously support a wide range of civic, charitable and volunteer programs that improve the quality of life in their local communities. The Michigan Retailer of the Year Awards were established in 1998 to recognize retailers’ most outstanding community efforts.

The awards are presented annually in three categories based on company size, as determined by annual sales volume. The 2007 recipients will be honored at the Tenth Annual Michigan Retailer of the Year Awards Luncheon in October. Each recipient will receive local and statewide recognition.

Nominating Criteria
The selection panel will evaluate each nominee’s breadth and depth of community
involvement during the more than 18-month period from January 1, 2006, to the present.

Special emphasis is placed on innovative and unique programs that make a significant, positive impact on the community. They could be activities that help local schools or support local arts groups. They could be activities that promote health or target drug use. They could be those that revitalize a downtown or encourage persons with special needs or abilities. They could be many things.

The selection panel looks closely at positive outcomes— the number of residents who have been helped and the specific ways they have been helped—not simply at dollars or time spent. Consideration also is given to the ways a nominee encourages employees and others to become involved in community giving and volunteerism.
