Meyer appointed to Internet pharmacy task force

Larry Meyer, chief executive officer of the Michigan Retailers Association (MRA), has been appointed to the State of Michigan Task Force on Internet Pharmacies and Prescribing.

The Task Force, which reports to the Department of Consumer and Industry Services, will review current regulations on Internet prescribing and health care, including mail-order pharmacies, and make recommendations on how the state should address these issues.

"The Task Force wants to ensure proper regulation of Internet pharmacies that will protect the health of consumers while allowing them to take advantage of the benefits of using the Internet to access health care products and information," said Meyer.

Meyer will also serve on the pharmacy subcommittee, which will address business aspects of Internet pharmacies.

"Working through MRA's Michigan Chain Drug Committee, the Association's retail pharmacy members will be able to give me their input on how Internet and mail-order sales affect their businesses and their customers," Meyer said.

The Michigan Retailers Association is the unified voice of retailing in Michigan and the nation's largest state trade association of general merchandise retailers. MRA's more than 5,000 retail business members operate more than 12,000 stores across the state.
