Michigan Retailers Association offers market-area analysis

Retailers throughout the state can now use a powerful tool for strengthening their store's marketing efforts -- a customized demographic analysis of the area where they do business.

The new service, developed by Anderson Economic Group in Lansing, is being offered through the Michigan Retailers Association (MRA).

The market-area analysis combines up-to-date statistics from numerous sources with proprietary software to create a detailed portrait of the economic and demographic characteristics of a retailer's customer base.

Each report includes maps and charts showing drive times, household income and expenditures (including a detailed breakdown of expenditures by type of merchandise), daytime population and other demographic data for the area surrounding the retailer's store.

"The market-area analysis provides a wealth of information to help retailers understand their existing customer base and identify potential markets," said James P. Hallan, MRA's president and chief operating officer. "It's especially valuable for targeting advertising or determining the best location for a new site. The analysis can easily pay for itself by making advertising more effective."

The cost of the analysis is $1,000 for MRA members and $1,500 for non-members. All orders will be completed within 48 hours.

The market-area analysis can be ordered online at http://mra.michiganmapper.com, or by contacting MRA's Robin Gregory at 800.366.3699 or rsgregory@retailers.com.

The Michigan Retailers Association is the unified voice of retailing in Michigan and the nation's largest state trade association of general merchandise retailers. MRA's more than 5,500 retail business members operate more than 12,000 stores across the state.
