Nominees sought for 2000 Retailer of the Year

Do you know a retail business that embodies community spirit, generously giving time or money to improve the lives of people in Michigan? You can now nominate that business as a 2000 Michigan Retailer of the Year.

The Michigan Retailers Association (MRA) is accepting nominations for its Third Annual Michigan Retailer of the Year Awards. The awards recognize Michigan retailers who make a significant positive impact in their communities through their involvement in and support of civic, charitable and volunteer programs.

Innovative approaches and positive outcomes are emphasized rather than simply the amount of money contributed. Awards will be presented in three categories - small, medium and large - based on annual sales volume.

"Retailers are the backbone of their local communities through their support for a wide variety of community projects," said Larry Meyer, MRA's chief executive officer. "We're excited to recognize retailers who are making the most outstanding contributions to their communities - the best of the best."

Anyone may nominate a retailer for Michigan Retailer of the Year. Retailers also may nominate themselves for the award.

Nominations must be received by September 25. Recipients will be selected by a panel composed of representatives from business, higher education, state government and charitable organizations. An awards luncheon will be held November 9 in Lansing.

For more information or to request a nomination form, contact MRA's Retha Lachance at 800.366.3699 or rlachance@retailers.com.

The Michigan Retailers Association is the unified voice of retailing in Michigan and the nation's largest state trade association of general merchandise retailers. MRA's more than 5,500 retail business members operate more than 12,000 stores across the state.
