Three new booklets are available in the Loss Prevention series published by the Michigan Retailers Association (MRA).
The Loss Prevention series is designed to help retailers and other businesses avoid costly losses from bad checks, shoplifting, employee theft and credit card fraud. Police departments throughout Michigan have used the booklets to educate retailers on loss prevention.
How to Prevent Bad-Check Losses and How to Prevent Shoplifting and Employee Theft are updated versions of previously published booklets, incorporating the latest changes to Michigan law. How to Prevent Credit Card Fraud is entirely new.
The most notable change in How to Prevent Bad-Check Losses is an increase in the maximum amount of a claim in Small Claims Court from $1,750 to $3,000. How to Prevent Shoplifting and Employee Theft includes changes in the criminal penalties for retail fraud.
How to Prevent Credit Card Fraud offers ways to distinguish between genuine and fraudulent credit cards and transactions. With the increasing use of credit cards, especially for Internet and other remote sales, these guidelines will be valuable to retailers in avoiding losses.
Copies of MRA's Loss Prevention booklets can be purchased for $3 each. Order online at MRA's website, or contact Retha Lachance, 800.366.3699 or rlachance@retailers.com.
The Michigan Retailers Association is the unified voice of retailing in Michigan and the nation's largest state trade association of general merchandise retailers. MRA's more than 5,500 retail business members operate more than 12,000 stores across the state.
