The Michigan Retailers Association (MRA) is searching for Retailers of the Century -- retail businesses that have been in operation for 100 years or more.
As part of the 2000 Michigan Retailer of the Year Awards, MRA will recognize retail businesses that began in 1900 or before.
"As we close out the 20th century, it's fitting that we highlight the remarkable staying power of these Michigan retail businesses," said Larry Meyer, MRA's CEO. "These century-old businesses are a significant part of our state's history as well as its present and future."
MRA is also accepting nominations for its Third Annual Michigan Retailer of the Year Awards. The awards recognize Michigan retailers who make a significant positive impact in their communities through their involvement in and support of civic, charitable and volunteer programs.
An awards luncheon honoring the 2000 Retailer of the Year and all Retailers of the Century will be held November 9 in Lansing.
To notify MRA of a Retailer of the Century or to nominate a retail business for Retailer of the Year, contact MRA's Retha Lachance at 800.366.3699 or rlachance@retailers.com. Nominations must be received by September 25.
The Michigan Retailers Association is the unified voice of retailing in Michigan and the nation's largest state trade association of general merchandise retailers. MRA's more than 5,500 retail business members operate more than 12,000 stores across the state.
