Michigan Retailers Association releases results
of first retail wage, salary and benefits survey

The Michigan Retailers Association (MRA) today released the results of its first-ever survey of wages, salaries and benefits for retail employees in Michigan.

Nearly 800 MRA members throughout the state participated in the confidential survey, which collected data on compensation and benefits for seven types of retail jobs. Lansing-area consulting firms Anderson Economic Group and Mitchell Research and Communications assisted with survey design, data collection and analysis of results.

"MRA's survey is the first to take an in-depth look at compensation in all forms across the retail industry in Michigan," said James P. Hallan, MRA's president and chief operating officer. "In today's tight labor market, this information is a key competitive weapon for retailers in attracting and keeping valuable employees."

The survey report includes statewide and regional data on pay -- including commissions and bonuses -- for store managers, assistant managers, full-time and part-time retail clerks, office workers, delivery personnel and buyers. Statewide figures are also provided on benefits for each category of workers, including health and dental insurance, 401(k) accounts, merchandise discounts, vacation time and sick time.

The complete survey report is available for $75 to MRA members and $150 to non-members. To order a copy of the report, contact MRA's Jeanette Towsley at 800.366.3699 or jtowsley@retailers.com.

The Michigan Retailers Association is the unified voice of retailing in Michigan and the nation's largest state trade association of general merchandise retailers. MRA's more than 5,500 retail business members operate more than 12,000 stores across the state.
