Rule named director of governmental affairs
for Michigan Retailers Association

LANSING -- Eric R. Rule has joined the Michigan Retailers Association (MRA) as director of governmental affairs. He is responsible for MRA's retail-industry advocacy efforts in Lansing and provides information and support to members on governmental issues.

His duties include monitoring bill introductions, analyzing legislation and representing MRA's interests before the Michigan Legislature and state regulatory agencies. He also promotes member involvement in the legislative process through grassroots advocacy and participation in MRA Political Action Committee.

Rule came to MRA from the Michigan Pharmacists Association, where he served as director of governmental affairs from 1998 to 2000. From 1996 to 1998 he was deputy director of district and external affairs for State Sen. Dick Posthumus, who was then Senate majority leader.

Rule holds a bachelor of science degree from Central Michigan University and is completing a master of public administration degree at Western Michigan University. A native of Lansing, he lives in Bath with his wife, Jennifer, and son, Eric Jr.

The Michigan Retailers Association is the unified voice of retailing in Michigan and the nation's largest state trade association of general merchandise retailers. MRA's more than 5,500 retail business members operate more than 12,000 stores across the state.
