Michigan Retailers Association
announces
2001-02 scholarship competition
LANSING -- The Michigan Retailers Association (MRA) expects
to double its college scholarship program by awarding approximately 16
scholarships for the 2001-02 academic year to benefit members and their
employees.
"The scholarship program is a way MRA can give something
back to members and their employees and families by helping make a college
degree more affordable," said MRA CEO Larry Meyer.
Applicants must be the dependent son or daughter of an
MRA member or of a full-time employee at an MRA-member firm. Full-time
students who work part-time at a member company may also apply. MRA has
more than 5,500 retail business members that operate more than 12,000
stores across the state.
High school seniors and college freshmen, sophomores and
juniors are eligible. Scholarship amounts range
from $500 to $1,000, depending on the type of college or university attended.
Awards are not based on financial need.
MRA's Michigan Retailers Foundation funds the scholarships,
and the competition is managed by Scholarship Program Administrators of
Nashville, Tennessee.
Employees at MRA-member businesses may contact their
employer for an application request form, or call Scholarship Program
Administrators, 615.320.3149, for an application.
The deadline to request an application is March 15, 2001. Applications
must be submitted by April 1.
The Michigan Retailers Association is the unified voice
of retailing in Michigan and the nation's largest state trade association
of general merchandise retailers.
