Michigan Retailers Association elects directors, officersFour retailers were elected to the Board of Directors of the Michigan Retailers Association (MRA) at the Association's annual meeting. Directors serve three-year terms. Re-elected to the MRA board were: W. Bruce Rogers, of Traverse City, president of Bartling's, Inc., a retailer of fine women's fashions based in Traverse City. He was first elected to the MRA board in 1992. Douglas A. Schubot, of Franklin, CEO and owner of Jules R. Schubot Jewellers, a third-generation, family-owned business in Troy. He was first elected to the MRA board in 1992. Elected for the first time were: Barb Stein, of Ada, owner/operator of Great Northern Trading Co., Rockford, a specialty gifts and home decor store she opened in 1977. She has served on the board of Michigan Retailers Services, Inc., the service-delivery arm of MRA, since 1997. Joe Swanson, of Lake Orion, mid-Michigan district team leader for Target Corporation. He is responsible for operations, profitability and human resources for 10 Target stores in Lansing, Mount Pleasant, Midland, Bay City, Saginaw, Flint and Port Huron. The board also elected officers for the 2001-02 fiscal year: Larry Meyer, chairman of the board and CEO; James P. Hallan, president and chief operating officer; Joseph McCurry, Detroit district general manager for Sears, Roebuck and Co., chair of the Executive Committee; Mark Schrag, owner of Seasons in Okemos, chair elect of the Executive Committee; and D. Larry Sherman, retired president of Sherman Shoes, Inc., in Birmingham, treasurer. The Michigan Retailers Association is the unified voice of retailing in Michigan and the nation's largest state trade association of general merchandise retailers. MRA's more than 5,500 retail business members operate more than 12,000 stores across the state.
