Retailers endorse Posthumus for governor

For Immediate Release
October 21, 2002

LANSING — The Michigan Retailers Association (MRA) today announced its endorsement of Dick Posthumus for governor.

MRA’s Board of Directors made the endorsement based on Posthumus’ pro-retail record and his stance on issues important to Michigan’s retail industry.

"Dick Posthumus has worked closely with Michigan’s retail community as lieutenant governor and as a legislator, and we look forward to working with him as governor," said Larry Meyer, MRA’s chairman and CEO.

"Lt. Gov. Posthumus understands the importance of the retail industry to this state’s economy and the fact that retailers provide nearly one in every five jobs in this state. He wants to see the retail industry grow and boost investment in technology in order to better serve Michigan consumers and their communities."

Posthumus was interviewed recently by members of the Board of Directors. Jennifer Granholm’s campaign declined a similar invitation.

The Michigan Retailers Association is the unified voice of retailing in Michigan and the nation’s largest state trade association of general merchandise retailers. MRA’s more than 5,800 retail business members operate more than 13,000 stores across the state.
