October 21, 2002

LANSING — The Michigan Retailers Association (MRA) today announced its endorsement of Michael Cox for attorney general.

MRA’s Board of Directors made the endorsement based on Cox’s stance on issues important to Michigan’s retail industry.

"Mike Cox understands the need to shift the focus of the attorney general’s office away from burdensome regulation of business and toward fighting serious crime," said Larry Meyer, MRA’s chairman and CEO.

"His support for strengthening consumer protection through increased use of technology and other methods that benefit both retailers and their customers shows he understands the importance of the retail industry to Michigan’s economy."

The Michigan Retailers Association is the unified voice of retailing in Michigan and the nation’s largest state trade association of general merchandise retailers. MRA’s more than 5,800 retail business members operate more than 13,000 stores across the state.
