Tire Wholesalers Inc. in Troy announced a 44,000-square-foot
expansion that will double the size of its warehouse. Scheduled for completion
in the fall, the expansion will enable Tire Wholesalers to deliver to
any business in the metropolitan Detroit area within four hours.
With the proliferation of tire sizes, there are
very few tire businesses that can locate virtually any size tire and deliver
it the same day, said President Ross Kogel. Thats a
great service for tire dealers, who are experiencing pressure from their
customers to have the right tire immediately.
Gary Baas and his wife, Paula, are retiring and closing
their stores after 38 years and 33 years, respectively, in retail. The
former MRA board member and his wife operate Baas Clothiers for
Men and Country House, a womens apparel store, in Holland.
They previously ran two stores by the same names in Grand Haven.
The business has its roots in the VandenBosch clothing
store in Grand Haven, founded in 1884. The store was purchased by Garys
father, Edward Baas, in 1941.
Office supply retailer Mayer-Schairer Co. in downtown
Ann Arbor closed its doors in May. The 92-year-old business, founded by
Oswald Mayer and Alfred Schairer, was purchased in 1955 by Robert Ely,
Boyd Johannes and Charles Gregory.
Scott Shuptrine, Troy, opened a new store in Petoskey,
the third for the upscale subsidiary of Art Van Furniture. The facility
