The timetable for MRA’s 2002 Michigan Retailer of the Year Awards and Michigan Centennial Retailer recognition has been moved up a month, meaning the programs will kick off in June instead of July.

“Holding the awards luncheon a month earlier allows us to complete the process well before retailers become swamped by the holiday season,” said MRA Chairman and CEO Larry Meyer.

The 2002 Michigan Retailer of the Year Awards will recognize a business in each of three size categories for outstanding contributions to the community. The Michigan Centennial Retailer program recognizes retail businesses that have been in operation for 100 years or more.

The June issue of the Michigan Retailer will include nomination forms for both programs. Members will also receive further details by mail. Nominations must be submitted by August 2; nominees will then be asked to complete a detailed form by August 30.

This year’s awards luncheon honoring the Retailer of the Year recipients and Centennial Retailers will be held in Lansing on October 15.

“Begin thinking now of a business - maybe even your own - that deserves one of these prestigious awards,” said Meyer. “Then be sure to nominate yourself or a fellow retailer when you receive your materials next month.”
