New Grand Rapids store, center

The Hurwitz family, owner of Rogers Department Store in Grand Rapids, is opening a second clothing store, “Daniel’s,” in September. The store will sell stylish, contemporary clothing for men and women.

Daniel’s will be the anchor store in a European-style, upscale retail center the Hurwitzes have developed called Terrazzo. Daniel Hurwitz, president of Daniel’s and Rogers Department Store, believes the new center will be “the most exciting retail complex to open in West Michigan this year.”

Along with Daniel’s, Terrazzo will include a gourmet grocery, a top-tier restaurant, an exclusive jeweler, a leading home-furnishings store and other unique shops. The grand opening is planned for September 18, 19, and 20.

William Osburn, of Art Van Furniture in Warren, has been appointed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to the 2003 Board of Examiners for the Malcolm Baldridge National Quality Award. The award, created by public law in 1987, is the highest level of national recognition for performance excellence that a U.S. organization can receive.

As an examiner, Osburn will review and evaluating applications submitted from industry, professional and trade organizations, education and health care organizations and government.
