Lottery's Fantasy 5 debut

by Commissioner Gary Peters

Michigan Lottery players across the state have been asking us for another exciting, easy-to-play game offering great cash prizes with frequent payouts. Your customers will be happy to learn that is exactly what Fantasy 5 provides.

This fantastic new game debuts September 12, 2004. Fantasy 5 offers players a chance to win a $100,000 daily jackpot that grows daily by at least $5,000 until someone matches all five numbers to win the jackpot prize.

The Fantasy 5 jackpots will be about 10 times more than the average $11,100 Michigan Rolldown jackpot. When a player hits the jackpot, then the next Fantasy 5 drawing will start with a $100,000 jackpot.

The new Fantasy 5 is our “little Lotto,” with lots of chances for players to win. We have never offered a game quite like this before and it is sure to quickly become a player favorite.

Players will select five numbers from a pool of 39. The new Fantasy 5 offers players great odds of winning a huge jackpot prize every single day, not to mention the fantastic guaranteed cash prizes.

The daily match two and three winners are sure to turn some of their winnings into additional Lottery sales, creating a win-win situation for both you and your customers. I encourage you to prominently display your point-of-sale materials for this great new game.

Fantasy 5 is replacing Michigan Rolldown. The last drawing for Rolldown will be on Saturday, September 11, 2004.

After the August 23, 2004, Michigan Rolldown drawing, the maximum number of multi-draw wagers available will decrease daily by one until the final drawing on Saturday, September 11. Fantasy 5 goes on sale the following day, with the first drawing being held the same day at 7:29 p.m.

As was the case with Michigan Rolldown, Fantasy 5 drawing results will be announced daily at 7:29 p.m. during the live television broadcast.

Mega Millions winner
Since the Big Game became Mega Millions in May 2002, Michigan Lottery retailers have sold three jackpot-winning tickets. The third jackpot winning ticket was sold during the July 23, 2004, drawing.

Larry Campbell, 63, of Pullman, picked up his check for $19,128,233 as the sole winner of the July 23 Mega Millions $47 million jackpot. Campbell elected to take his winnings in a lump sum payment.

Campbell, who has been playing the Michigan Lottery since it was first established, chooses his own numbers. The winning Gold Mega Ball number, 12, is his daughter’s birthdate.

The lucky retailer who sold that $47 million jackpot winning ticket was Al’s Total, 5624 19th Ave., in Pullman. The owner of Al’s Total earned a $2,000 commission for the jackpot-winning ticket he sold.

Instant ticket coupon
Beginning September 19, the Michigan Lottery will offer its players special promotional coupons offering one free $2 instant game ticket with the purchase of any $5 instant game ticket. The coupons will be distributed in more than 1.6 million newspapers across the state.

Your customers are not the only ones who will benefit from this promotion. It also creates an opportunity for Lottery retailers to earn an additional 53-percent commission on a $5 instant ticket sale!

I strongly encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity to showcase the Lottery’s instant games in your stores, and don’t forget to ask for the sale.

Daily double promotion
Remember, the Daily Double sales promotion continues through November 1. Retailers whose Daily Double sales comprise five percent or more of their total Daily 3 and 4 sales will earn an additional 6-percent sales commission on their Daily Double sales.

This incentive affords retailers an opportunity to double their commission on their Daily Double sales during the promotional period. For more details on this great promotion, please be sure to speak with your District Sales Representative.
