When to call Customer Service:
major life events and insurance

We all say that if we wait a little while, the weather will change. It’s the same in our lives—every few years, or even more frequently with some of us, things change.

Insurance people refer to big changes as “major life events.” The MRA Customer Service Department can help you make changes in your insurance benefits as a result of these events.

What are these “major life events?” They are: getting married, buying a home, having a child, having that child go to college and getting divorced.

Let’s look at each of these life events to see how Customer Service can help you with your insurance decisions.

Getting married: If you signed up for the MRA life insurance plan, do you want to make your new spouse your beneficiary? Also, if you enrolled in the MRA health plan, should your spouse be added to your coverage? Customer Service can get you the forms you need to make the necessary changes.

Buying a home: Now that you have a new home, you probably have a mortgage. Some of us worry about paying off the mortgage if there is a premature death—one reason for purchasing life insurance.

Having a child: If you are enrolled in the MRA health plan, you should add your new “bundle of joy” as a dependent on the health plan as soon as possible. Customer Service can get you the forms you need.

Child going to college: If you enrolled your child in the MRA health plan, he or she is covered under the plan until age 23, as long as full-time student status is maintained. Customer Service can help answer specific questions about coverage continuation.

Getting divorced: Will you be required to provide health insurance for your former spouse? If you have children, who will provide health insurance for your children after the divorce? Should you change your life insurance beneficiary? Customer Service can provide all the forms needed to make the necessary changes.

A prevalent theme in these major life events is the need to look at your life insurance coverage. MRA offers both employer-paid and supplemental life insurance, and MRA’s Customer Service department is ready to offer additional information about the various life insurance options. Please call them at 800.366.3699 with any questions you have about obtaining insurance.
