MRA Customer Service Bulletins

Truncation is the law…
As of July 1, Michigan law requires truncation of the credit card number on the customer copy of the sales slip. If your terminals are not in compliance, call Customer Service at 800.366.3699.

Phone order fraud continues…
Members continue to report cases of attempted telephone-order fraud. Examples include con artists posing as deaf people.

They use a relay phone service for the deaf to place orders with retailers, using unauthorized credit card numbers for merchandise that can be resold, or large orders to be shipped to Nigeria, Turkey, Indonesia or other foreign countries.

To avoid falling victim to phone order fraud, carefully consider all phone orders and watch for red flags, such as delivery to a foreign address or a customer trying multiple credit card numbers.

On a phone order paid with a credit card, the retailer is 100-percent liable for that charge—the retailer could lose both merchandise and payment.

If you suspect fraud during a sales transaction, call 800.563.5981, option 4, then press 0 for an operator and ask for a code 10.

If the customer is not present, call MRA Customer Service between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday at 800.569.5981. By calling to report the fraud or potential fraud after the fact, you may help identify a card number as suspect, as well as learn more about avoiding fraud.
