E-advocacy at retailers.com

Especially during election seasons, the importance of MRA’s governmental affairs mission is clear—watching and advocating for legislation that is retail-friendly, supporting retail-friendly candidates and helping members be informed and involved on legislative issues that affect their businesses.

On MRA’s website, retailers.com, the Governmental Affairs section is designed to help members learn about and support the Association’s governmental affairs efforts. It also serves as a resource to help members become involved.

Under the Governmental Affairs section (fourth from the left on the home page) are links to specific areas of MRA’s legislative work, including Legislative Advocacy, Capitol F@cts, Get Involved, MRA PAC and Government Links.

Legislative Advocacy provides an overview of the legislative work the Association does.

Capitol F@cts is a periodic bulletin written by Director of Governmental Affairs Eric Rule reporting on Michigan’s legislative issues and actions of interest to retailers.

Archives of this bulletin are found at this section of the website. To receive Capitol F@cts by fax or e-mail, contact MRA’s Kathy Wilson at 800.366.3699 or kawilson@retailers.com.

Get Involved provides specific suggestions for ways members can get involved on retail-related legislative issues. It provides mailing addresses for senators and representatives.

A tool called VoterVOICE makes it even easier to contact federal and state elected officials, legislative committees or the media. Free registration with MRA’s Grassroots Action Center is required to use this tool.

MRA PAC is the simplest way to support MRA’s governmental affairs and political advocacy work. This section explains how PAC money is used and how to contribute.
