GIA classes come to MichiganMichigan Jewelers Association and the Gemological Institute of America have teamed up to bring GIA’s high-quality extension courses back to Michigan. MJA members and other retail jewelers may enroll in the one-week “Diamond Grading Lab,” to be held September 18-22 at the Ypsilanti Marriott at Eagle Crest Resort. Also offered is a free half-day “Diamond Cut Grading” class on Saturday, September 23. Enrollment for the MJA-sponsored GIA classes is limited to 30 participants for each class on a first-come, first-served basis. The Diamond Grading Lab is part of GIA’s core gemological curriculum. Participants will discover how to judge and grade clarity, color and cut quality factors of round brilliant diamonds. The free half-day seminar on Saturday is intended for those with previous diamond training and/or experience, including a working knowledge of GIA’s International Diamond Grading System. By practicing with real diamonds and under the guidance of an experienced GIA instructor, participants will learn about the new GIA Diamond Cut Grading System for round brilliant cut diamonds and gain hands-on experience in estimating cut grades. They also will learn to judge brightness, fire and scintillation, and how proportions, polish and symmetry relate to the final cut grade. For more information or to register, contact MJA’s Kammy Johns at 800.366.3699 or kjohns@retailers.com. |
