MRA thanks Target for gift

Target Corporation has contributed another $5,000 to the Michigan Retailers Foundation, which funds MRA’s scholarship program.

Over the past five years, Target and Joe Swanson, mid-Michigan district team leader for Target and an MRA board member, have given $31,025 to the Foundation.

As a result of its most recent gift, a third Target scholarship will join the eight existing Legacy scholarships that honor specific retailers who have given $10,000 or more to the Foundation.

“Generous contributions are the backbone of a program such as this, and we thank Target for its continued generosity,” said Larry Meyer, MRA chairman and CEO. “We also thank everyone who has contributed to the Foundation, and encourage all members to create a legacy by contributing at whatever level they can afford.”

The Foundation’s assets now total more than $1.1 million. Interest earned on the assets funds the Michigan Retailers scholarship program, which has provided financial aid to 133 students since 1999. At least another 36 students will receive scholarships for the 2007-2008 academic year.

Contributions to the Foundation are tax-deductible. For information on how to contribute, contact MRA at 800.366.3699 or mra@retailers.com.
