Since we put the Michigan Retail Index survey
online at the beginning of this year, members find it easier to
provide comments. We will publish a selection of members’
comments each month.
No names are included because survey participation is anonymous.
An apparel retailer writes: “As a
Michigan-based business you should be doing business with a Michigan-based
bank, not a bank in Chicago.”
Editor’s note: The writer is referring to the Michigan
Retail Index, which is a partnership between MRA and the Chicago
branch of the Federal Reserve Bank, which is the central banking
system of the U.S., with 12 regional banks in the nation and none
in Michigan. Detroit and most of Michigan falls under the Chicago
branch of this federal system.
An apparel retailer writes: “Work
and sales are slower than I have seen in the 17 years I have been
in business.”
A pharmacy writes: “Our state government
promotes mail order and Canada, and it will continue to hurt independent
pharmacies the most.”
A precious metals/collectibles retailer writes:
“November 2007 sales were the highest for any month since
1980.”
A gifts, jewelry and apparel retailer writes:
“2008 promises to be a great year for my business since I
will be going wholesale as well as keeping the retail end of the
business.”
A gift retailer writes: “I have been
with you since 1990 and recommend you to anyone asking who handles
my charges. Keep up the good work.”
