Michigan Retailers Association hosted Capitol Day on April 22. The event brings retailers together with legislators, their staff, and other retail advocates to share the impact of legislation on their businesses and to ensure their voices are heard through personalized meetings with their local representatives and senators.

More than 20 retailers from across the state and various retail industries attended around 30 meetings with legislators and their staff.

Participating retailers discussed a wide range of policies with legislators, covering everything from their opposition to expansion of the bottle deposit law to their desire to be part of the growing conversation around dynamic pricing.

Retailers also made sure to express their support for continued funding for the Focused Organized Retail Crime Enforcement unit within the Attorney General’s budget and for a pair of policy bills that would add gift card fraud to the state’s Organized Retail Crime Act. Capitol Day was especially well-timed this year, with several MRA members able to attend the committee hearing in which House Bills 4598 and 4599 were favorably reported to the full Senate.
