Overview

Michigan Retailers Association (MRA) is located in Lansing and provides legislative advocacy and cost saving services to retailers across Michigan and beyond. The Buy Nearby program is a member benefit and community engagement initiative raising awareness about the importance of shopping locally and encouraging consumers to “Keep Your Money in Michigan!” MRA seeks a Community Engagement Intern to support marketing initiatives and the Buy Nearby program. The ideal candidate will be creative, highly-engaged, and organized to handle multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.

Location

Lansing, Michigan (in-person position), some travel within Michigan required.

Hours

Part-time (20-30 hours per week)

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Vice President of Communications with executing content and social media and strategy for MRA, Buy Nearby, and affiliated entities.

  • Wear the Buy Nearby Guy mascot suit at events, media outings, and other community engagements across Michigan, including evening and weekend events.

  • Cultivate relationships with members, community partners, and shoppers.

  • Assist and/or conduct record reviews and periodic audits on member contact lists.

  • Write content and utilize templates to create media/graphics.

  • Organize and multi-task while collaborating with others to achieve goals.

  • Provide support with various marketing tasks including mailings, collateral organization, member outreach, and other various administrative tasks.

Job Requirements

 

Education

High school diploma required or actively being pursued. Ideal candidate is seeking, or intends to seek, a marketing-related bachelor’s or associate’s degree. Valid driver’s license required.

Experience

  • Strong computer proficiency with standard office software (Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook)

  • Proficiency with social media and digital marketing tools (Meta, TikTok, HubSpot, Canva, Adobe)

  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and communication

Compensation

$18.00 per hour
