Being a Member

The Michigan Retailers Association aggregates the purchasing power of more than 5,000 member businesses and their 15,000 stores and websites. MRA is able to negotiate better prices and rates on a wide range of business services – everything from “no hidden fees” expert credit card processing to Retailers Insurance Company workers’ comp and dental insurances to discounts on inbound and outbound shipping.

The amount you’ll save from being a member of MRA should far exceed your annual dues investment, because our studies show members save an average of 16 percent when processing credit cards and 25 percent on shipping costs. You don’t even need to be a retailer to join and take advantage of our business services.

Credit Card Processing

As one of the largest and most established credit card processors in Michigan, the Michigan Retailers Association handles credit card processing for thousands of businesses. MRA members receive some of the lowest processing rates and enjoy MRA’s personal, professional, Michigan-based customer service.

The Michigan Retailers Association helps businesses of all sizes navigate options for all types of insurance, including workers’ compensation, health, dental, vision, life and disability. Learn from the experts and benefit from discounted rates.

Founded in 1940 to represent the retail industry on a sales tax issue in the Michigan Legislature, we’ve never strayed from keeping a close focus on the legislative and regulatory arena. The Association works to change Michigan laws to ensure retailers can continue to grow their businesses in the 21st century economy. We also protect the industry from costly and harmful taxes and regulations.

Some of Our Proud Members

We appreciate all the organization does for us fighting for small businesses.

- Jason Klonowski , Owner , Martha’s Original Mackinac Island Fudge, Brighton

The processing rates with our previous provider had continued to go up. The prices we were quoted [by MRA] were lower, and after starting with the MRA program, the numbers don’t lie. I’ve seen a 30 percent decrease in [my] credit card processing costs.

- Mike Casey , Owner , Aberdeen Bike & Outdoors, Chelsea

Through the Michigan Retailer magazine and other communications, we’re kept informed about what’s going on in state and federal government and how it might impact us as a small business. It’s nice to have a group that goes to bat for us and keeps an eye on government and regulatory developments.
